Battandier, Albert

(1850 -1921 ) Scholar, born Saint Flicien, Ardche, France ; died there. Educated at the Jesuit college of Mongre, near Lyons, and at the seminary of Viviers, he was ordained, 1875 , and won his degree in theology and canon law at the French seminary in Rome, 1879 . Appointed consultor of the Congregation of Bishops and Regulars, 1881,/a>, he soon became recognized as an authority on church legislation and on laws of religious communities. After publishing several ecclesiastical works, he began to edit, in 1898 , with the cooperation of Father Vincent de Paul Bailly, the Annuaire pontifical catholique.
