BERITES or BERIM. A clan mentioned with Abel and Beth-Maachah in N. Palestine, visited by Joab in pursuing Sheba, son of Bichri (2Sa 20:14), “all the Berites.” They followed him at his call.

berts (, berm; according to Klostermann and others, , bikhrm): The word is found only once in the Old Testament (2Sa 20:14). The passage seems to be doubtful. The suggestion of Klostermann does not improve matters any; the other proposed reading, , bahurm (Vulgate, viri electi), choice young men, is to be preferred.
