Beth-abara
BETH-ABARA
Place of the ford, a town on the east bank of the Jordan, where John baptized, Joh 1:28 . It was perhaps the same as Beth-barah, Jdg 7:24 ; but the true site is unknown. Many of the best Greek manuscripts and recent editions have Bethany, also unknown, instead of Beth-abara.

Beth-abara
Beth-abara (bth’b’a-rah, or bth’ah-b’-rah), house of the ford, a place beyond Jordan. Joh 1:28. The R. V. and some of the best manuscripts read Bethany for Beth-abara; possibly it was at Beth-nimrah, or Nimrn; or, as Conder thinks, at Abarah, a leading ford of the Jordan on the road to Gilead.
