Bethhaccerem
Bethhaccerem
(“house of the vineyard”.) (Jer 6:1). S. of Jerusalem, near Tekoa, on an eminence suitable for a fire signal. The ruler of the region round Bethhaccerem helped Nehemiah (Neh 3:14) in rebuilding the Jerusalem wall. The so-called Frank mountain (Herodium) probably now corresponds to it. Herod’s residence is supposed to have been here; its nearness to Bethlehem, the scene of his massacre of the innocents, well accords with this.
