Blast
as a noun (in the sense of current of air), is the rendering in the Auth. Vers. of , neshamah’ (2Sa 22:16; Psa 18:15), “breath,” as elsewhere, or of , ru’ach (Exo 15:6; Jos 6:5; 2Ki 19:7; Job 4:9; Isa 25:4; Isa 37:7), ” wind” or “spirit,” as elsewhere; as a verb, etc. (in the sense of blighting), it represents the Heb. roots , shadaph’, or , shadam’, always spoken of the blasting of crops (Deu 28:22; 1Ki 8:37; 2Ch 6:28; Amo 4:9; Hag 2:17), especially of grain (Gen 41:6; Gen 41:23; Gen 41:27), often sudden (2Ki 19:26; Isa 37:27), apparently by a hot wind (Hackett, Illustra. of Script. p. 135).

Blast
(, neshamah, , ruah):
(1) The blowing of the breath of Yahweh, expressive of the manifestation of God’s power in Nature and Providence. With the blast of thy nostrils the waters were piled up (Exo 15:8), referring to the east wind (Exo 14:21; compare 2Sa 22:16 and Psa 18:15). I will send a blast upon him (2Ki 19:7 the King James Version; the Revised Version (British and American) put a spirit in him, i.e. an impulse of fear (Dummelow in the place cited.); compare Isa 37:7). By the blast of his anger are they consumed (Job 4:9; compare Isa 37:36).
(2) The word ruah is used with reference to the tyranny and violence of the wicked (Isa 25:4).
(3) The blowing of a wind instrument: When they make a long blast with the ram’s horn (Jos 6:5).
