Canterbury, Baldwin of
(died 1190 ) Archbishop , born probably near Exeter, England ; died Acre , Palestine. He was abbot of the Cistercian Abbey of Ford, in Devonshire. Consecrated Bishop of Worcester, he was elected Archbishop of Canterbury , 1180 . He preached the Third Crusade, and set out for the Holy Land, 1190 . While there he acted as vice-regent of the patriarch. He died during the siege of Acre .
