The word chasil signifies ‘devourer,’ hence the name of a species of locust. 1Ki 8:37; 2Ch 6:28; Psa 78:46; Isa 33:4; Joe 1:4; Joe 2:25. In Psa 105:34; Jer 51:14; Jer 51:27 the word is yeleq, and is elsewhere translated CANKERWORM, q.v.
