Comprises a large portion of County Cork. Suffragan of the archdiocese of Cashel . First bishop , Saint Colman MacLenin (560 -601 ). Seven recorded devastations of Cloyne took place from 822 -1137 . Its bishops were nearly all English from 1265 -1429 . Cloyne and Cork were united under Bishop Purcell (1429 ). Ross was separated 1849 . The ancient cathedral at Cloyne has been used by Protestants since the 16th century . The current cathedral is Saint Colman in Cobh.
