Coat of Mail
Coat Of Mail
(, shiryon’, glittering) occurs in the description of Goliath’s armor (1Sa 17:5), and also of Saul’s (1Sa 17:38). SEE ARMOR. The plural forms are found in Neh 4:16; 2Ch 26:14; where they are translated habergeons (q.v.). The kindred terms, (shiryah’, habergeon, Job 41:26), (shiryan’, harness, 1Ki 22:34; 2Ch 18:33; breast-plate, Isa 59:17), and (siryon’, brigandines, Jer 46:4; Jer 51:3), were probably less complete kinds of the same, i.e. corslets.
