Di-a-n-a. Greek, , a revolving in the mind. This Figure is employed when the speaker uses animated questions and answers in developing an argument.

The Latins called it SUBJECTIO, a substituting, RESPONSIO, a responding.

It is a form of Dialogismos (q.v. [Note: Which see.] ).
