Ding an sich

(Ger. thing in itself) A Kantian term referring to what lies beyond human experience and observation. “Things in themselves” are transcendent, not transcendental or applicable to any human experience. The “thing in itself” exists independent and apart from all knowledge. It has an independent reality apart from the subjectivity of human knowledge. — H.H.
