Dross
(, sig, once [Eze 22:18, text] , suq. what goes off in refining), the scorice or impurities of silver separated from the ore, or rusted or adulterated forms, by the process of melting (Pro 25:4; Pro 26:23; Psalm cxix. 119); also the base metal, or mixture itself prior to smelting (Isa 1:22; Isa 1:25; Eze 22:18-19). Psa 119:119 (a) This shows the worthless character of the ungodly.
Pro 26:23 (b) The expression here typifies hypocrisy – a beautiful silver covering on a worthless bit of broken pot has no value.
Isa 1:25 (b) The word here describes those unhappy and deceitful things in the life of Israel which GOD would take away by His various cleaning processes. (See also Eze 22:18).
