lit., “to throw together” (sun, “with,” ballo, “to throw”), is used of “encountering” in war, Luk 14:31, RV, “to encounter … (in war),” for AV, “to make war against;” of meeting in order to discuss, in Act 17:18, “encountered,” of the philosophers in Athens and the Apostle.
