Eristic
(Gr. eristike) In Aristotle’s logic the art of specious reasoning, or of reasoning from specious premises, for the purpose of victory in argument; — opposed to apodictic and to dialectical reasoning. See Apodiclic; Dialectic.
A kind of polemic, characterized by the use of logical subtleties and oratorical casuistry, for which the Megarian School was particularly famous. See Megarians. — R.B.W.
