Ernakulam-Angamaly, India, archdiocese of

Comprises all the churches of the Syrian Rite of Malabar between the Chalakudy River and the Vempanad Lake, and includes in its territory the native states of Travancore and Cochin in British Cochin; area, 2,450 square miles. The archdiocese of Ernakulam, India was established on 21 December 1923 from the Vicariate Apostolic of Ernakulam; suffragan sees, Changanacherry, Kottayam, and Trichur. Saint Thomas the Apostle brought Christianity to the people of Malabar in the 1st century . Name changed to the archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly on 16 December 1992 . See also:
