Excluded middle, law of

or tertium non datur, is given by traditional logicians as “A is B or A is not B.” This is usually identified with the theorem of the propositional calculus, p ? ~p to which the same name is given. The general validity of the law is denied by the school of mathematical intuitiontsm (q. v.). — A.C.
