Feast of the Crown of Thorns
Feast of the Crown of Thorns
Friday after Ash Wednesday , instituted at Paris, 1239 , when Saint Louis brought back a relic of the Crown , later deposited in the Royal Chapel. Here the feast was kept on 11 August until it was adopted as a double-major at Rome, 1831 , and the present day selected. It is not a universal feast , the Mass and Office being appendices of the Missal.
