Flavio Biondo
(1388 -1463 ) Catholic archaeologist and historian, born Forli, Italy ; died Rome, Italy . He was secretary to Popes Eugenius IV, Nicholas V, Calixtus III, and Pius II. He is considered a founder of the science of archaeology and of Christian and medieval topography, and compiled three encyclopedias which form the basis of all subsequent dictionaries of Roman antiquities.
