GAASH
GAASH
A hill of Ephraim, north of which stood Timnath-seres, celebrated for Joshua’s tomb, Jos 24.30. The brooks, or valleys of Gaash, 2Sa 23:30 1Ch 11:32, were probably at the foot of the hill.

Gaash
(Heb. id -G, a shaking or earthquake; Sept. ), a “bill” (rather mount ) among the mountains of Ephraim, near Timnath-serah, on the north side of which Joshua was buried (Jos 24:30; Sept. ; Jdg 2:9). Hence “the brooks of Gaash,” i.e., the valleys or watercourses -n, wadys, Sept. ) around the mountain, which were the native place of Hiddai or Hurai, one of David’s warriors (2Sa 23:30; 1Ch 11:32). Eusebius and Jerome merely state that Joshua’s tomb was still a remarkable monument near Timnah in their day (Onomast. s.v. , Gaas). SEE JOSHUA. If Timnath (q.v.) be the modern Tibnah, then Matthew Gaash is probablthe hill full of sepulchral caverns now facing it on the south. SEE EPHIAIM, MT.

Gaash
gaash (, gaash): First mentioned in connection with the burial place of Joshua in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-serah, which is in the hill-country of Ephraim, on the north (side) of the mountain of Gaash (Jos 24:30; compare Jdg 2:9); see TIMNATH-HERES. The brooks, or rather the wadies or watercourses of Gaash are mentioned as the native place of Hiddai (2Sa 23:30), or Hurai (1Ch 11:32), one of David’s heroes. No likely identification has been suggested. See EPHRAIM, MOUNT.
