Georges Cartier
(1814-1873) Statesman, born Saint Antoine, Canada ; died London. He was Attorney-General of Lower Canada in 1856 , 1857 , 1858 , and 1864 , as well as Premier of Canada in 1858 and minister of militia in 1867 . Several important measures were due to his influence, and he secured for his native province a degree of autonomy and parliamentary representation proportionate to its historical and political importance.
