green
In the liturgy, as in nature, a symbol of hope, life, and growth. This color denotes that through Christ is born the hope of salvation, and that after the winter, which preceded Christ’s coming, the green springtime of grace has begun for souls. It is the color for the ordinary Sundays and for week days when the Sunday Mass is repeated.

akin to chloe, “tender foliage” (cp. the name “Chloe,” 1Co 1:11, and Eng., “chlorine”), denotes (a) “pale green,” the color of young grass, Mar 6:39; Rev 8:7; Rev 9:4, “green thing;” hence, (b) “pale,” Rev 6:8, the color of the horse whose rider’s name is Death. See PALE.
denotes “wet, moist” (the opposite of xeros, “dry”); said of wood, sappy, “green,” Luk 23:31, i.e., if they thus by the fire of their wrath treated Christ, the guiltless, holy, the fruitful, what would be the fate of the perpetrators, who were like the dry wood, exposed to the fire of Divine wrath.

Job 8:16 (b) This type is used to describe the hypocrite who is unstable and is soon destroyed.
Job 15:32 (b) By this figure we see that the man who is deceived and is not true to GOD’s Word, and is not really linked up with GOD, will not prosper, and shall not be productive in his life.
Psa 52:8 (a) This type indicates a fresh, happy spirit, full of life, vigor and growth.
Jer 17:8 (a) This symbol represents youth, life, freshness and vigor. This is a Christian who is spiritual, zealous, active for GOD.
Hos 14:8 (a) By this type we understand life at its best. Such a life is filled with joy, gladness, singing and service.
Luk 23:31 (b) This is a figurative way of saying that if Israel was so rebellious and so hostile when the Lord JESUS was with them, what would they be like when CHRIST was gone from them. When they were free to read the Scriptures and to worship in their temple (all of which is compared to a green tree), what would they be like when they had no temple, and their enemies came in like a flood, and they had no Scriptures from which to read. This time is compared to the season of a dry tree.
