(Heb. Guni’, dyed [-Gesen.] or protected [Furst]; Sept. , but in 1Ch 7:13, , Vulg. Guni, the name of two men.

1. One of the sons of Naphtali (B.C. ante 1856, but not necessarily born before the migration to Egypt) (Gen 46:24; Num 26:48; 1Ch 7:13). His descendants are called GUNITES (Num 26:48).

2. Father of Abdiel, and grandfather of Ahi, which last was chieftain of the Gileadite Gadites (1Ch 5:15). B.C. between 1093 and 782.

GUNI.1. The eponym of a Naphtalite family, Gen 46:24 = 1Ch 7:13 (cf. Num 26:48 where the gentilic Gunites occurs). 2. A Gadite chief (1Ch 5:15). Probably we should also read the Gunite for Jonathan in 2Sa 23:32; and for the Gizonite in 1Ch 11:34.
