Comprises the Island of Tasmania, Bruni Island, and the Islands in Bass Straits. Established as a diocese on 22 April 1842, elevated to an archdiocese on 3 August 1888. Fathers Philip Connolly, Cotham, and John Therry carried on missionary work in the 19th century .
