HORESH.The word hresh means wooded height in Isa 17:9, Eze 31:3, 2Ch 27:4, and this is probably its meaning in 1Sa 23:15 (cf. 1Sa 23:16; 1Sa 23:18), although some would make Horesh a proper name, as in RVm [Note: Revised Version margin.] .

horesh (, horeshah, 1Sa 23:15, 1Sa 23:18, margin only; Septuagint , en te Kaine, in the New; English Versions of the Bible in the wood (, ba-horeshah), the particle in being combined with the article): Horesh in other passages is translated forest (compare 2Ch 27:4; Isa 17:9; Eze 31:3) and it is most probable that it should be so translated here.
