(Heb. Yigdalyah’, but only in the prolonged form, Yigdalya’hu, , whom Jehovah will make great; Sept. , Vulg. Jegedalia), the father of Hanan, into the chamber of which latter Jeremiah brought the Rechabites to propose the test of their temperance (Jer 35:4). B.C. ante 606.

Igdaliah
The “man of God” (i.e. a prophet, one not his own; having parted with all right in himself, to be wholly God’s: Deu 33:1, Moses; Elisha, 2Ki 4:7; Timothy, 2Ti 3:17). Father of Hanan, in the chamber of whose sons Jeremiah (2Ti 35:4) met the Rechabites; as consecrated by its association with his name, it was a fit scene for the divine communication.
