James Longstreet

Soldier and convert, born Edgefield, South Carolina, 1821; died Gainesville, Georgia, 1904. He was one of the greatest Confederate generals during the Civil War. His “From Manassas to Appomattox” is a valued military narrative. He became a Catholic, 1877, and was later United States Minister to Turkey.
