(Heb. Yehozabad’, , Jehovah given; Sept. , but in 2 Chronicles 24, 26), the name of three men. SEE JOZABAD.

1. The second son of Obed-edom (q.v.), the Levitical gate keeper of the Temple (1Ch 26:4). B.C. 1014.

2. The last named of Jehoshaphat’s generals (Josephus , Ant. 8:15, 2) in command of (?) 180,000 troops (2Ch 17:18). B.C. cir. 910.

3. Son of Shomer (or Shimrith, a Moabitess), one of the two servants who assassinated king Jehoash of Judah in that part of the city of Jerusalem called Millo (2Ki 12:21; 2Ch 24:26). B.C. 837.

JEHOZABAD.1. One of the servants of king Joash who conspired against his master and joined in his assassination (2Ki 12:21 = 2Ch 24:26). 2. A Benjamite chief (2Ch 17:18). 3. A Levitical family (1Ch 26:4). A shortened form of the name is Jozabad (wh. see).

(1) A servant of King Jehoash of Judah. According to 2Ki 12:21 (22), he was a son of Shomer, but 2Ch 24:26 makes him son of Shimrith the Moabitess.

(2) A Korahite doorkeeper, son of Obed-edom (1Ch 26:4).

(3) A Benjamite, one of King Jehoshaphat’s warriors (2Ch 17:18).

Jehoz’abad. (whom Jehovah gave).

1. A Korhite Levite, second son of Obed-edom, and one of the porters, of the south gate of the Temple, and of the storehouse there, in the time of David. 1Ch 26:4; 1Ch 26:15 compared with Neh 12:25. (B.C. 1014).

2. A Benjamite, captain of 180,000 armed men, in the days of King Jehoshaphat. 2Ch 17:18. (B.C. 910).

3. Son of Shomer or Shimrith, a Moabitish woman, who, with another, conspired against King Joash, and slew him in his bed. 2Ki 2:21; 2Ch 24:26. (B.C. 837).
