(Heb. Yeuel’, , snatched away by God, i.e. protected; Sept. ,Vutg. Jehuel), a descendant of Zerah, who, with his kindred to the number of 690, resided in Jerusalem after the captivity (1Ch 9:6). B.C. 536. This name is also everywhere written in the text for . SEE JEIEL. In the Apocrypha (1Es 8:39) it stands for the Heb. Jeuel (Ezr 8:13) as the name of one of the Bene-Adonikam who returned to Jerusalem after the captivity.

(1) A man of Judah (1Ch 9:6); the name is not found in the parallel of Neh 11:24.

(2) A Levite, the King James Version Jeiel (2Ch 29:13).

(3) A companion of Ezra, the King James Version Jeiel (Ezr 8:13).

(4) The name occurs also as Kethibh in 1Ch 9:35; 2Ch 26:11. See JEIEL, (2), (6).
