The word is , praetorium , as it is translated in Mar 15:16. It was the official residence of Pilate the governor in Jerusalem. Joh 18:28; Joh 18:33; Joh 19:9; Act 23:35. It is translated ‘palace’ (the barracks of the Praetorian body of soldiers, from whom Paul’s guards were selected) in Php 1:13; ‘common hall’ in Mat 27:27; and ‘hall of judgement’ in Joh 18:28.
