Lappeth
Lappeth
Lappeth. Jdg 7:5. Orientals are accustomed to take up water in the hollow of the hand to drink with surprising agility. When Gideon’s army came to the water side, some drank of it with the hand quickly, to be ready without delay to follow Gideon; while the thousands of fainthearted, that were sent away, stooped down to drink with so much tardiness and ceremony as to show that then- hearts were not with Gideon in his contemplated enterprise. The three hundred showed themselves men of alacrity and promptness, and therefore fit for the work.

Lappeth
Jdg 7:5 (b) Evidently those who thus drank were on their feet ready to go. They were ready for the war at a moment’s notice. The others who go on their knees were off-guard and not ready to go. This is a picture of being ready “in season, out of season.”
