Ligature
(ligatura, ligamentum, , etc.) was a kind of amulet worn by the ancient heathen, either upon their own persons or those of their animals, for the purpose of averting evil. Their use is condemned by early Christian writers (Chrysostom, Homil. adv. Jud. 8:7; Const. Apostol. 8, 32, etc.).
