Martyr, Edmund the, Saint
King of East Anglia, born probably Nuremberg, Germany , c.840 ; died Hoxne, England , 870 . He was crowned King of East Anglia, 855 . Refusing, because of his faith, to accept the terms of the Danish invaders, Hingvar and Hubba, he was beaten with cudgels, pierced with arrows, and beheaded. Emblems : an arrow, and sword. His relics were preserved at Abbey of Saint Edmundsbury. Feast , 20 November .
