Midnight
midnt ( , hacoth laylah, middle of the night (Exo 11:4; Job 34:20; Psa 119:62), , hac ha-laylah, the half of the night (Exo 12:29; Jdg 16:3; Rth 3:8), , tokh ha-laylah, the division of the night and hence, the middle point (1Ki 3:20); , meses nuktos (Mat 25:6), or , meson tes nuktos, the middle of the night (Act 27:27), , mesonuktios, midnight; Westcott and Hort, The New Testament in Greek, mesonuktion (Act 16:25, etc.)): In the period before the exile midnight does not seem to have been very accurately determined. The division of the night was into three watches, the middle one of which included midnight. In New Testament times the four-watch division was used where midnight must have been more or less accurately determined. See TIME; WATCH.

Midnight
an adjective denoting “at, or of, midnight,” is used as a noun in Mar 13:35; Luk 11:5; Act 16:25; Act 20:7.
Note: In Mat 25:6 “at midnight” translates the adjective mesos, and noun nux, “night,” in the combined adverbial phrase. In Act 27:27 “about midnight” translates an adverbial phrase consisting of kata, “towards,” followed by mesos, “middle” and nux, “night,” with the article, lit., “towards (the) middle of the night.” See MIDST.

Luk 11:5 (c) The term describes the deep perplexity and distress of a soul that has come to the end of his resources and is in soul trouble about his path and his future. It represents the man or the woman who calls at your door selling some article, but in his heart there is conviction of sin, and a realization of his need. You are supposed to have the Bread of Life to give to him in his deep distress.
