(1873-) One of the leading English realists. Professor of Mental Philosophy and Logic at Cambridge. Editor of “Mind.” He has been a vigorous opponent of the idealistic tradition in metaphysics, epistemology and in ethics. His best known works arePrincipia Ethica, and Philosophical Studies. Belief in external things having the properties they are normally experienced to have. Founder of neo-realistic theory of epistemological monism. See Neo-Realism. — L.E.D.
