Olympas

Olympas

(, a Greek name, contracted from Olympiodorus)

Olympas is the fifth of a group of five persons, and all the saints that are with them, saluted by St. Paul in Rom 16:15, probably as forming an or household or district church in Rome or Ephesus. If the first two persons in the group, Philologus and Julia (which see ), were husband and wife, it is possible that Nereus and his sister and Olympas were their family. But there is nothing further known of any one of them.

Olympas

(, from the same etymology as Olympius [q.v.]), a Christian at Rome, saluted by Paul in his epistle to the Church in that city (Rom 16:15). A.D. 55. Olympas

A Christian at Rome (Rom 16:15). The addition, “and all the saints which are with them,” implies that each of the five, of whom Olympas is one, was a center round whom others gathered for prayer, edification, and good works.

Olympas

o-limpas (, Olumpas): The name of a Roman Christian to whom Paul sent greetings (Rom 16:15). Olympas is an abbreviated form of Olympiadorus. The joining in one salutation of the Christians mentioned in Num 16:15 suggests that they formed by themselves a small community in the earliest Roman church.
