(Heb. Hoshe’a, ; Sept. ; Vulg. Osee), another form (Num 13:8) of the name of JOSHUA SEE JOSHUA (q.v.), the son of Nun.

Joshua’s original name (Num 13:8). (See JOSHUA.) His faith, in contrast to the unbelieving spies, procured for him the addition of Jehovah’s name to his own (Num 14:6-10; Deu 32:44), “Jah his salvation.”
