Confessor , Bishop of Paris, born near Autun, France , 496 ; died Paris, France , 576 . He was Abbot of Saint Symphorien near Autun and was promoted in 555 to the see of Paris, where he exercised a reforming influence on King Childebert. In 588 he dedicated the church of Saint Vincent, which, after Germain’s relics had been translated therein 754 , received his own name. The monastery erected close by, Saint Germain-des-Pres, was famous for centuries. His relics at Saint Germain-des-Pres were dispersed, c.1793 . Feast , 28 May .
