akin to hagnos, “pure” (see CHASTE), “to purify, cleanse from defilement,” is used of “purifying” (a) ceremonially, Joh 11:55; Act 21:24, Act 21:26 (cp. No. 3 above); Act 24:18; (b) morally, the heart, Jam 4:8; the soul, 1Pe 1:22; oneself, 1Jo 3:3.
