Saint David’s, Wales, diocese of
Founded by Saint David of Wales. From the 7th to the 11th centuries it asserted metropolitan jurisdiction over South Wales, the town, a celebrated place of pilgrimage, being the leading religious center of Wales for upwards of 1000 years. The diocese eventually came under the episcopal jurisdiction of Canterbury. It has since been suppressed.
