Saint Gregory, Society of

Founded in England on Saint Gregory’s day 1929 by Father J. B. McElligott, O.S.B. Composed of persons interested in ecclesiastical music. Its principal aim is to maintain the dignity of the Sacred Liturgy as an instrument of congregational worship, by fulfilling the wishes of Popes Piux X and Pope Pius XI as expressed in the Motu Proprio of the former on 22 November 1903, and the Apostolic Constitution of 28 December 1928 of the latter. Its further purpose is to give instruction in plainsong and polyphony to choirmasters, teachers, and others, and to this end. Courses and summer schools are established.
