Seat (Noun and Verb)

from kata, “down,” and hedra, “a seat,” denotes “a seat” (Eng., “cathedral”), “a chair,” Mat 21:12; Mar 11:15; of teachers, Mat 23:2.

“the first seat,” Mat 23:6; Mar 12:39; Luk 11:43; Luk 20:46; see CHIEF, No. 6. Cp. ROOM.

“to sit, be seated,” is translated “shall … be seated” in Luk 22:69, RV; “is seated,” Col 3:1, RV (AV, “shall … sit” and “sitteth”). See SIT.
