Shaveh Kiriathaim

Shaveh Kiriathaim

Shaveh-kiriathaim

(Heb. Shaveh’ Kiryatha’yim, , plain of the double city; Sept. ), a plain at or near the city of Kiriathaim, occupied by the Emim at the time of Chedorlaomer’s invasion (Gen 14:5). Schwarz finds the town (which is known to have been located east of the Jordan) in. the ruins of Kiriat, one and a half mile southwest from Mount Atara (Palest. p. 228), and the dale, or Shaveh (q.v.), must have been in the immediate vicinity. SEE KIRJATHAIM.

SHAVEH-KIRIATHAIM (the plain of Kiriathaim). The place where the Emim were smitten by the allied kings from the East (Gen 14:5). It probably derived its name from the Moabite Kiriathaim (Num 32:37, Jos 13:19).

Shaveh-Kiriathaim

shave-kir-ya-thaim ( , shaweh kiryathayim; , en Saue te polei): Here Chedorlaomer is said to have defeated the Emim (Gen 14:5). the Revised Version margin reads the plain of Kiriathaim. If this rendering is right, we must look for the place in the neighborhood of Kiriathaim of Moab (Jer 48:1, etc.), which is probably represented today by el-Kareiyat, about 7 miles to the North of Dibon.

Shaveh Kiriathaim

Sha’veh Kiriatha’im. (plain of the double city). Mentioned in Gen 14:5, as the residence of the Emim, at the time of Chedorlaomer’s incursion. Kiriathaim is named in the later history, though it has not been identified; and Shaveh Kiriathaim was probably the valley in or by which the town lay.
