Shilhim
Shilhim
(Heb. Shilchim’, , armed men [Gesenius], or fountains [Furst]; Sept. v.r. ), a city in the southern portion of the tribe of Judab, mentioned between Lebaoth and Ain, or Ain-Rimmon (Jos 15:32). In the list of Simeon’s cities in Joshua 19, Sharyhen (Jos 19:6) occupies the place of Shilhim, and in 1Ch 4:31 this is still further changed to Shaaraim. It is difficult to say whether these are mere corruptions or denote any actual variations of name. The juxtaposition of Shilhim and Ain has led to the conjecture that they are identical with the Salim and Aenon of John the Baptist; but their position in the south of Judah, so remote from the scene of John’s labors and the other events of the Gospel history, seems to forbid this.

Shilhim
A city in the S. of Judah (Jos 15:32). One of Simeon’s cities in Jos 19:6 Sharuhen; SHAARAIM in 1Ch 4:31. (See SHARUHEN.) The Imperial Bible Dictionary connects Shilhim with Shiloah or Siloam from shaalach “send,” waters sent from a fountain (Joh 9:7; Neh 3:15), and identifies with el Birein, “the wells” four in number, each 25 or 30 ft. deep. The name appears in wady es Serum, which is near and contains “ruins of Serum,” khirbet es Seram.
