whence Eng. prefix, hex—, is used separately from other numerals in Mat 17:1; Mar 9:2; Luk 4:25; Luk 13:14; Joh 2:6; Joh 12:1; Act 11:12; Act 18:11; Jam 5:17; Rev 4:8. It sometimes suggests incompleteness, in comparison with the perfect number seven.
Notes: (1) In combination with tessarakonta, “forty,” it occurs in Joh 2:20; with hebdomekonta, “seventy,” Act 27:37, “(two hundred) threescore and sixteen.” (2) It forms the first syllable of hexekonta, “sixty” (see below) and hexakosioi, “six hundred,” Rev 13:18 (see SIXTY, Note); Rev 14:20.

This number is used to express man’s sufficiency.
Six days were sufficient for man’s labor. GOD never intended man to have a five day week, nor an eight hour day. (See Exo 20:9).
Six steps were sufficient to approach the throne of King Solomon, which was the throne of perfect human judgment. (See 1Ki 10:19).
The loaves on the table of shewbread were in two rows of six each, and this was a sufficient provision to represent all the tribes of Israel. (See Lev 24:6).
The great giant had six fingers on each hand, and six toes on each foot, for he represented the perfect example of that race of giants. (See 2Sa 21:20).
Six main cities of refuge were sufficient for the protecting care of GOD over the murderer. (See Num 35:6).
The mystical number of the antichrist is six hundred sixty-six, for he represents all that man can produce of human wisdom, power and provision. (See Rev 13:18). This number is arrived at by adding together the numerical values of the letters in the Greek language which compose his name.
