Comprises the London Boroughs south of the Thames, the county of Kent and the Medway Unitary Authority. Saint Augustine of Canterbury landed on the coast of Kent in 597 , and there Christianity was first preached in the Saxon language by him. Founded as the diocese of Southwark on 29 September 1850 .
