Sow (Verb), Sower
“to sow seed,” is used (1) literally, especially in the Synoptic Gospels; elsewhere, 1Co 15:36-37; 2Co 9:10, “the sower;” (2) metaphorically, (a) in proverbial sayings, e.g., Mat 13:3-4; Luk 19:21-22; Joh 4:37; 2Co 9:6 (b) in the interpretation of parables, e.g., Mat 13:19-23 (in these verses, RV, “was sown,” for AV, “received seed”); (c) otherwise as follows: of “sowing” spiritual things in preaching and teaching, 1Co 9:11; of the interment of the bodies of deceased believers, 1Co 15:42-44; of ministering to the necessities of others in things temporal (the harvest being proportionate to the “sowing”), 2Co 9:6, 2Co 9:10 (see above); of “sowing” to the flesh, Gal 6:7-8 (“that” in Gal 6:7 is emphatic, “that and that only,” what was actually “sown”); in Gal 6:8, eis, “unto,” signifies “in the interests of;” of the “fruit of righteousness” by peacemakers, Jam 3:18.
