T’ai i
The Great Unit, the Prime Force before the appearance of Heaven and Earth. Also called ta i. (Ancient Confucianism).
Ultimate Oneness, which involves both Being (yu) and Non-Being (wu) (as in Chuang Tzu, between 399 and 295 B.C.), or “which pervades Heaven and Earth, indeterminate but simple, existing but uncreated,” (As in Huai-nan Tzu, d. 122 B.C.).
