TREAD
Tread (under or trample upon) signifies to overcome and bring under subjection. Thus in Psa 60:12 : ” Through God we shall do valiantly; for it is he that shall tread down our enemies.” See also Isa 10:6; Isa 14:25.
To tread upon oaths, in Homer, signifies to break or violate them. See II. . ver. 157, where the word is used.
