Comprises territory in the province of Bengal. Established as a Prefecture Apostolic on 19 July 1870. Elevated to the diocese of Krishnagar on 1 September 1886 as suffragan of Calcutta. Entrusted to the Salesians, they turned over administration to the diocesan clergy on 24 May 2001. See also:
