0055. Rewards at Our Lord's Return
Rewards at Our Lord’s Return
"And, behold, I come quickly; and My reward is with Me, to give every man according as his work shall be" (Rev_22:12).
According to the Word of God, the believer during this age may expect persecutions and sorrows and sufferings. The more truly we live for God, and the closer we walk with God, the more will we be hated of the world.
Our rewards, for the great part, lie beyond this age.
Down here, we may receive blessed tokens for Christian life and service, but these are only foretastes of what awaits us when our Lord appears.
Mat_16:27–"For the Son of Man shall come in the glory of His Father * * then He shall reward".
Luk_12:43-44–"Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath".
Luk_14:14–"Thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just".
2Th_1:5, 2Th_1:7–"That ye may be counted worthy of the Kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer * * and to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from Heaven".
Rev_2:23, Rev_2:25–"I will give unto every one of you * * hold fast till I come".
Rev_11:18–The time hath come "that thou shouldest give reward unto Thy servants and prophets, and to the saints".
Rev_22:12–"Behold, I come quickly; and My reward is with Me".
The above passages suffice to show us that Jesus Christ will bring His rewards with Him.
"When Jesus comes to reward His servants,
Whether it be noon or night,
Faithful to Him will He find us watching,
With our lamps all trimmed and bright?
"Blessed are those whom the Lord finds watching,
In His glory they shall share;
If He shall come at the dawn or midnight,
Will He find us watching there?"
